Meet the Cast of Don Giovanni (Part 4)

Baritone Diego Catalá is a graduate of the prestigious Glenn Gould School of Music and has his Bachelor in Health from York University. Mr. Catalá is a captivating operatic performer whose roles include: Capellio (Capuleti e i Montechi) Triquet (Los Gavilanes), Bardolfo (Falstaff), Frank Maurant ( Street Scene), El Rey (Gato con botas) Marryman (Ernest, the importance of being) Belcore (L'elisir d'amore),Ragman (Louise), Escamillo (Carmen ), Caballero de Gracia (La Gran Via), Germont (La Traviata), Felipe (La Revoltosa), Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni),Ernest (Le Laureat) Mercurio (La Calisto), and Papageno (The Magic Flute). This past summer Diego had his performance debut at the world renowned Carnegie Hall. Diego recently performed the role of Q, in the premier of James Bond: A convenient lie, the show goes on tour this fall. Diego is happy to be performing the title role in his fourth Don Giovanni with Vera Causa Opera this spring and Diego once again will be performing the title role of Don Giovanni next month with Odd Opera.

Chris Todd, a native of Parry Sound, Ontario, is a 4th year Honours Clarinet Education Major with a minor in Chemistry at Wilfrid Laurier University, studying with Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra principal clarinetist, Peter Shackleton. He was part of the Wilfrid Laurier Wind Orchestra for the first three years of his degree and is currently a member of the Wilfrid Laurier Symphony Orchestra. Chris has been playing clarinet since grade 9 and was awarded a Gold Medal from the Royal Conservatory of Music for his Grade 8 clarinet exam in 2013. He has been the principal clarinetist for Vera Causa Opera for the past two years, doubling on e-flat and bass clarinets as well, and has performed in many student composition concerts and musical productions such as Student Budget Productions’ A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2017. He aspires to become a high school music teacher one day as well as continuing to be a part of musical ensembles on the side.

Fun Fact: Although strikingly similar, he is not actually Ron Weasley or Ed Sheeran incognito.

Alex Fox currently studies Violin at Wilfrid Laurier University with Jerzy Kaplanek and the Penderecki String Quartet. He is an aspiring performer who has played in many different venues as a soloist, chamber musician and as part of the Laurier Symphony Orchestra. He is a big fan of new music, with his chamber group having just performed at the Music Room in Waterloo a concert devoted to new works by student composers. His upcoming plans include summer programs such as Quartetfest!
