There are still lots of ways to get into the holiday spirit and support local arts and community groups in our Region this winter! Many events and activities have become virtual, while other outdoor events have taken extra precautions so that you can still enjoy the winter displays and activities safely.

Here's our round-up of things to do in Waterloo Region this winter!


Ever wanted to try your hand at sculpting? Snowy days means everyone can get in the fun by heading outside and learning how to make snow sculptures!

Waterloo resident Matt Morris is sharing his tricks of the trade on how to create snow sculptures. Check out this video and visit his website to learn more and join the virtual club.

How about clay arts? The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery in Waterloo offers Play with Clay at Home Kits, including a Holiday kit! They only have limited kits left, visit their site to claim yours.

Crafty Creatures in Cambridge offers craft kits for everyone - kids, teens, families and adults! Get into the holiday spirit with one of their themed craft kits. See all this studio has to offer on their website.

Shop the local Cambridge Christmas Market online this year! This annual, award-winning favourite has gone virtual for 2020 to allow shoppers to support local artists by shopping from home. Visit the virtual shop until December 23rd.

The Kitchener-Waterloo Guitar Orchestra is hosting a virtual concert with the Idea Exchange on December 20th, featuring music from the Italian Baroque period. Check out their event page for more information!

The Christkindl Market has also gone online this year! They're featuring an online Advent Calendar and a virtual marketplace to support local shops and artisan's. Check out everything it has to offer!

Enjoy a Virtual breakfast with Santa! Join in the fun with pancakes, stories, and crafts from Mr. Claus himself. Learn more here.


Christmas in Cambridge offers many activities and events. Winter Illumination runs up until January 2nd. Enjoy winter light displays all around Cambridge, created by several local artists. Learn more about the 20 light installations on the event page here.

Enjoy the impressive display of visual effects, colours and lights in this year's Winter Display at the Old Post Office in Galt! These displays use a visual effect called "projection mapping" to the front (street side) of the Old Post Office in an amazing colourful and transformative display.

The Winter Display is running until December 27th. Read more about it here.

Explore the scenic nature that our Region has to offer with Skiing and Snowshoeing programs through Grand River Parks. It's a great way to enjoy the winter season and get outside with the family. Learn more about the parks and their equipment rentals here.

The Waterloo arts community offers many sights to see, including Art Walks like this one.

And while some in-person activities can't run, "Wonders of Winter" in Waterloo Park is still on display until January 1st. This display of lights features of 100,000 light bulbs and is sure to capture the sparkle and excitement of the holiday season. Learn more about it here.
